Harper’s Portrait by her Great Grandfather

Harper is my Great Granddaughter and as you can see she is a beautiful child. And, she has a delightful personality!  The photo I used for reference was not in good focus or light, but had a beautiful pose and expression, but was great for getting my sketch on the canvas. Having her to pose helped to get the skin tones and features more accurately. This one will hang on her Mom’s wall next to the portrait of her older sister Klara. I enjoyed painting her so much it was hard to call it finished.

Sunflower Portrait original oil painting

The Sunflower Portrait is painted on a 20 by 16 inch gallery wrap canvas in a realistic representation with artistic attempt to capture as much of the shapes and color that make the flower so beautiful. The use of shadow and light to create the shapes required a lot of color mixing and blending. I am very happy with the end results. I hope your enjoy the work.  You can purchase this painting and others at our Bartlett Pair Art website.

Check out the pics capturing stages of the painting process.

Reviewing Older Paintings

I have started checking my archive files for paintings I did in my earlier years.  I find this process interesting and inspiring to review my journey and growth as an artist.  The journey is not over yet.  I will always feel like a novice yearning to learn more and become a better painter.  Back to where I was going with this post, take a look at this bluebonnet painting composed in an oval.  The petals at the bottom are painted coming out of the oval providing an interesting illusion.  The original was done in oils using the oval idea Bob Ross (one of my favorite artists) and others were doing on TV.

I enjoyed the work and will be posting more of my older works, and of course, new paintings as I finish them; so, check back to see whats going on.  Prints are available.

Merry Christmas to You and Yours!

Oil Painting of Klara

Portrait of Klara done by her great grandfather and artist, Jimmie Bartlett

Klara is my great grandchild and as you can see, she is a beautiful little girl. I never thought I would live long enough to see my great grand children, much less paint a portrait of them.  Klara is the oldest of the three so I started with her.   I was able to get her to stand still for a pose, even if it was only for a couple of minutes.   The painting was done with water mixable oils on a 14 inch by 11 inch canvas. Springtime Fields original acrylic painting

Springtime Fields was painted in acrylics on an 8 inch by 10 inch gallery wrap canvas with edges painted black.  I was inspired to paint this road side scene along Highway 35 because of the beautiful bright yellow flowers growing in front of the cattle shed and round bales of hay lined up in a nice composition.  I brought the scene closer to the viewer and planted more flowers in front of the fence line.

I didn’t know at the time I took the photo, to paint from, a customer and friend of mine owned the property.  When she saw the painting on FB, she contacted me to purchase Springtime Fields.  So social networking does work!  I also want to say Thank You to Cindy for her purchase.

Blessings My Friends,
